Balanced Chemical Reaction
MgO (s) + H2SO4 (aq) -----> MgSO4 (aq) + H2O (l)
Procedure
1.) Measure 40 mL of sulfuric acid in a graduated cylinder.
2.) Place the 40 mL of sulfuric acid in a 100 mL beaker.
3.) Obtain 0.5 grams of magnesium oxide, as enough will be needed to spark a reaction.
4.) Slowly add magnesium oxide, while stirring, to the mixture.
5.) Continue adding magnesium oxide until the reaction stops, for this signifies an excess of magnesium oxide.
6.) MgSO4 + H2O should be the result.
